Sewer backups or CAT 3 losses as they're known in the restoration industry can be tricky and challenging to deal with. The area in question must be cleaned and sanitized and some times structural materials will need removal. In this situation the vinyl floor in the kitchen eventually needed to be removed as the waste contaminants had gotten underneath.
